Using the instant asset write-off threshold in 2020

Flexiglass Challenge - Tuesday, July 14, 2020

** UPDATE - Extended until the 31st of December 2020 **

The Australian Government has increased the instant asset write-off threshold for a limited time. Keep reading to find out how this one-off change can help your business or you as an employee in 2020.

Until December 31 of this year, the Australian Government has increased the instant asset write-off threshold for eligible businesses. This means more businesses and employees than ever before can claim lump-sum tax deductions on individual, depreciable work-related assets of $150,000 per asset, per individual – a five-fold increase on the previous year’s $30,000 per-asset limit.

In basic terms, here are the changes to the instant asset write-off threshold for this financial year only:

  • Businesses with an aggregated turnover of under $500 million are eligible. This is a ten-fold increase from the $50 million eligibility limit in the previous financial year, meaning businesses and their employees that weren’t previously eligible now are.
  • The threshold amount for each asset is now $150,000. This is a five-fold increase on the previous year’s threshold of $30,000.
  • Under the instant asset write-off scheme, your eligibility depends on a range of factors:
Your aggregated turnover (the income of associated businesses is lumped together with the total ordinary income of your business).

  • The date you purchased the asset and it was first used or installed ready for use.
  • The cost of each asset being less than the threshold.
  • Under this scheme, it’s possible for small businesses (like trades) to claim an instant asset write off on large items like a 4x4 vehicle used for work. However, since the threshold can be applied to each individual asset, the business can have accessories such as canopies and drawers instantly deducted from their taxable income come the end of the current financial year.
With this in mind, there’s never been a better time to get deck-out your 4x4 with Flexiglass. So, what are you waiting for? Head over to our online shop now, start building your dream work vehicle and then Request a Quote instantly from your local reseller to take advantage of this one-off increase to the instant asset write-off threshold.

Please be aware that you must make sure you take advantage of the Government’s current initiative before 31 December 2020 or you will miss out. From From 2021 the instant asset write-off will only be available to businesses with a turnover of less than $10 million and the threshold will be $1,000.

To find out if you’re eligible for the Australian Government’s instant asset write-off scheme for the financial year to 31 December 2020 and to receive guidance on the financial benefit your business will receive from the instant asset write-off scheme , please consult with your accountant before purchasing any assets for work purposes.

You can also read more about the scheme on the ATO website here.

The new home of Flexiglass Queensland

Flexiglass Challenge - Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Aeroklas Australia has officially opened its first Aeroklas product showroom and fitment centre in Brisbane’s northside suburb of Brendale.

Designed to showcase Aeroklas’ wide range of automotive accessories, the new showroom is also a boon for Aeroklas Australia’s auto aftermarket brands Flexiglass and Bocar.

The new branch brings together the three brands’ products for viewing, purchase and fitment in one location, effectively completing Flexiglass’ transition from its previous Brisbane office in Slacks Creek.

“The opening of our first Australian fitment centre is our first step in bringing our vision for the future for the light commercial vehicle market to life,” said Matt Logan, Aeroklas Australia’s head of customer experience and retail strategy.

“By combining Flexiglass, Bocar and Aeroklas products in one place with expert sales staff and our aftermarket fitment services capabilities, Brisbane-based customers can now find Australia’s best range of vehicle canopies and light commercial vehicle accessories all in one place.”

Built to service the unique demands of fleet, commercial business enterprises and the general public, the showroom is located adjacent to another of Aeroklas Australia’s recognised sub-brands in TJM 4x4 Equipped.

“This is the first of our planned light commercial vehicle fitment centres and we’re already looking forward to opening more showrooms as we move through 2020,” said Logan.

Brisbane’s Aeroklas showroom and fitment centre at 1 Hinkler Court is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Saturday.

Aeroklas has been producing plastic automotive accessories for over 35 years. This includes service bodies, vehicle canopies, roof racks, storage boxes, drawer systems and more. The company’s commitment to crafting class-leading products has seen Aeroklas become the world’s first manufacturer of a Twin Skin ABS vehicle canopy, while their international network includes some of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the world.

Flexiglass on the move in Queensland

Flexiglass Challenge - Monday, December 16, 2019

As part of Flexiglass' integration into the Aeroklas Australia group, the Flexiglass facility in Slacks Creek will be permanently closed from the 20th of December, 2019.

Currently situated at 95 Nujooloo Road, Flexiglass’ main Queensland service hub will be relocating in January 2020 to Brendale in Brisbane’s north. This new destination will be serving Flexiglass customers through an all-new Aeroklas showroom – the first of its kind in Australia.

Flexiglass was acquired by Aeroklas Australia – a group that also owns automotive aftermarket brands Bocar and TJM 4x4 Equipped – in 2018, and this relocation is part of a larger plan for Flexiglass and its parent company.

“The Flexiglass brand is one of the oldest in the automotive industry and this transition is the next chapter in a long and storied history,” said Matt Logan, Aeroklas Australia’s head of customer experience. Flexiglass lays claim to designing the first-ever fibreglass vehicle canopy in 1949. The 2020 move to an Aeroklas showroom will see products from Flexiglass, Aeroklas and Bocar come together for viewing, purchase and fitment in one location.

“By combining Flexiglass’ deep product range with Aeroklas Australia’s growing footprint and vision for the future, the Flexiglass brand will be well represented moving forward,” said Logan.

This retail transition from Nujooloo Road to 1 Hinkler Court follows on the heels of Flexiglass head office staff moving to Aeroklas Australia’s new headquarters at 17 Johnstone Road, Brendale. Boasting extensive warehousing, distribution and research and development facilities, this purposebuilt location brings together staff and product knowledge from all four of Aeroklas Australia’s unique sub-brands.

During Flexiglass’ brief retail transition from Slacks Creek to Brendale, Queensland Flexiglass customers can continue to purchase Flexiglass products through multiple distributors within the greater Brisbane region.

Aeroklas Australia adds Flexiglass and Bocar

Flexiglass Challenge - Monday, January 01, 2018

In early 2018, Aeroklas Australia strategically acquired two iconic Australian brands and cast its plans for expansion in local and international markets.

Today, an impressive brand and product portfolio exists and includes Aeroklas, TJM 4X4 Equipped, Flexiglass and Bocar. Each of these brands attract a unique customer supported by a growing products and services mix which underpins the Aeroklas Australia offering to the Automotive Aftermarket.

Aeroklas Australia has also invested significantly in the Australian automotive market with new premises and the creation of local jobs for everyday Australians. A modern ‘state of the art’ facility in Brisbane’s northside has recently opened and is home to more than 100 employees.

“Our brands are strong and the investment in R&D, product innovation, IT and an efficient distribution centre demonstrates their long term commitment to our industry,” Aeroklas Australia General Manager, Greg Kelly, said.

“Our premises have been specially designed to provide staff with the best working conditions and include a modern R&D laboratory, new manufacturing equipment, paint booths and modern staff amenities.”
